ABOUT OOSO

Welcome to the Out-Of-State Student Organization (OOSSO). Our goal is to unite the OOS community and create a home away from home for those here at Rutgers. We strengthen this community through social programming and advocacy initiatives. Our social programming allows students to meet other Rutgers students who are going through similar life experiences and connect others from their home state. By uniting Rutgers students from across the country, we are able to gather questions and concerns about the out of state student experience. We love our OOS family and we are sure that you will too!

We are a new organization but we are working hard and growing everyday. Throughout the year we participate in tons of school events and host our own social events like meeting at 16 Handles for frozen yogurt or rock climbing for free in the College Ave gym, and our weekly Saturday Night Dinners. Going to a college out of state, especially a large school like Rutgers, is hard. We're here to help and support and be a friend.

Why Rutgers?

“People always ask me why I decided to move to New Jersey from California. All I can say is why not?! Rutgers University is a spectacular school with a great National reputation. I am so impressed with the academics and faculty at this University as well as the history. I am so inspired just thinking about how historic Rutgers is and how many remarkable people went here! Rutgers is also located right smack in the middle of New York City and Philadelphia so there is no excuse for not having something to do. But I don’t even need to leave campus to find something to do! There are so many things to do on campus and the sheer amount of majors and activities offered is overwhelming. Plus, Rutgers students are extremely passionate about the University. This is especially apparent during football games, “RU RAH RAH.” I love Rutgers because it is the perfect school for me: great people, great opportunities, great academics, and the perfect college experience!”

"Coming to Rutgers from Southern California was definitely a shock. But I’ve learned that the world is much bigger once you live in a place that is completely different than what you’re used to. Coming to Rutgers has shaped me into a more independent and bodied individual ready to start my career!"
